1. Market Highlights
Prices for HRC continued to decrease sharply during the month influenced by prices decrease of raw materials as well as the slow market, coupled with participants' wait-and-see attitudes. Leading producers such as Baosteel, WISCO, Bengang Steel and HBIS maintained EXW prices for February-March flat, indicating that they were not so confident of the market outlook. Besides, Tangshan Steel, China Railway Equipment Manufacture and Lianyuan Steel announced to take facility maintenance on HRC production lines in February-March because of the unsatisfactory sales performance. Believing the price is hard to go up and likely to go down again after the Lunar New Year holiday (February 15-21), most end users refused to place large orders and only purchased according to urgent needs. Reporting poor sales performances, traders were also cautious about supplementing inventories. Considering the market will run slowly before and right after the Lunar New Year holiday, insiders do not think the price for HRC could change much in February.
