1. Market Highlights
Prices for Chinese silicon metal stopped the decreasing trend in December. In the domestic market, prices for low-grade silicon metal rebounded supported by sharply increasing prices for ferrosilicon; and the upward momentum was stronger due to less supply as silicon metal plants in South China suspended production in a large scale owing to higher prices for electricity charge in the dry season. In terms of the export market, prices for silicon metal increased supported by higher prices in the domestic market and the Yuan evaluation; and thus overseas consumers mainly held a wait-and-see attitude and were inactive to make purchases, leaving dim export market.
