1. Market Highlights
Mainstream prices for Chinese germanium metal 99.99%min increased continuously from Q4 2017 till late December. The increased price was caused by the tight supply of raw materials and fewer spot materials as a result of environmental inspections, limitation in imported waste containing germanium, difficulties in smelting low-grade scrap that contains germanium and the decreased grade of germanium-bearing lignite. At the same time, demand from consumers increased in the year end, supporting price for germanium metal to climb further. It is predicted that prices for germanium metal would move up firmly before the Spring Festival.
