Prices for steel plate declined in most Chinese domestic markets influenced by the sharp price decline of steel billet during the month, in line with a slow market. Significant and continuous prices decreases of construction steel weakened steel plate market participants' confidence in the market outlook to a large extent. Meanwhile, most end users preferred to purchase according to urgent needs rather than place large orders, with pessimistic attitudes towards the market prospect. Not being confident of the market outlook, traders were cautious about supplementing inventories, and the overall market stockpile remained low. Considering the downstream demand is likely to shrink further in January with the approach of the end of the year, insiders think the price for steel plate is likely to go down further next month.
