Iron ore market quickly retreated in the second half of September with demand sliding as downstream steel mills faced restricted production due to the high environmental protection pressure in North China. Due to the coming 19th National Congress of CPC in Beijing in middle October and the heating season starting since middle November, China government strengthened the control of emission of steel and chemical industry. The long eight-day China National Day and traditional Mid-autumn Festival holiday also depressed activity in iron ore market. Many insiders are becoming more pessimistic about iron ore industry in the fourth quarter when reducing steel production and retreating steel prices are expected to push downward prices of raw materials including iron ore.
