1. Market review
Prices for welded pipe dropped by around RMB200/t (USD30/t) in major Chinese domestic markets dragged down by prices declines of raw material such as iron ore and steel billet during the month, while those for seamless pipe increased by around RMB150/t (USD22/t) boosted by significant prices increases of tubing blank. Meanwhile, the market performance failed to improve in the “Golden September”. On the one hand, end users were cautious about placing orders seeing frequent prices changes, while on the other hand, lots of downstream projects were forced to halt progress facing environmental protection pressures with the holding of the 19th National Congress, and thus the rigid demand for steel pipe shrank obviously. Considering both the supply and the demand are likely to be cut in October, insiders do not think the steel pipe price will change much by then.
