Prices for steel pipe increased again in major Chinese markets during the month, with the mark-up ranging RMB100-250/t (USD15-37/t), boosted by prices soars of raw materials as well as those in the steel futures market. However, end users were scared of rapid prices increases and refused to place orders, for fear of a sudden falling back, leading to a slow market. Besides, traders also held cautiously optimistic attitudes towards the market prospect and reduced stockpiles to a safety level. Insiders think the steel pipe price is likely to go up further in August considering tight supply of raw materials caused by environmental protection inspection.
