Pig iron demand stayed sluggish in general in June, while many downstream casting plants were cutting operation with the market entering slack season
. But the good performance of steel market pulled prices of coke and scrap upward very significantly in the month . Higher costs and rebounding scrap prices pushed iron producers to raise prices of pig iron as well especially when supply tightened in many production areas due to decreasing production of pig iron for cast iron and S . G . cast iron . The rising prices of pig iron also forced many casting plants who kept very low inventory to rebuild stocks to avoid risks of higher prices in the near future . In the long run, insiders are still not optimistic about iron demand and price trend.
