Prices of wire rod and rebar showed an upward trend in the early and middle May but gradually fell back slightly in late May, totally recording a mark-up of RMB200-300/t (USD29-44/t) in the month. Steel mills kept active in producing construction steels due to high profit. However, the demand from downstream industries such as building sites may shrink a little in June, when it is the traditional low season. Traders are going to face more sales pressure from increased stocks and lower demand. Insiders predict that prices for wire rod and rebar are likely to go down in June.
