Silicomanganese prices dropped and then increased in April. In early April, mainstream prices for silicomanganese 65/17 held at RMB6,800-7,000/t (USD987-1,016/t) VAT included ex works D/P; in mid-April, steel plants had completed central purchases, so the market saw weak demand and silicomanganese prices started to decline; with late April approaching, prices for the material held at RMB6,200-6,400/t (USD900-929/t) VAT included ex works D/P, down by RMB400/t (USD58.07/t) from early April. In late April, manganese ore prices climbed up quickly and the offer increased by RMB8-10/dmtu (USD1.16-1.45/dmtu); so offers from silicomanganese producers moved up accordingly. Silicomanganese 65/17 prices picked up by RMB400/t (USD58.07/t) to RMB6,600-6,800/t (USD958-987/t) in late April. In late April, steel plants finished purchases in succession with mainstream bidding prices for silicomanganese at RMB6,700-6,800/t (USD973-987/t) VAT included delivered to plants D/A and the spot market tended to be stable.
In early and mid April, manganese ore prices continued to dip and small scaled traders reduced prices to clear out; moreover, affected by massive stocks at ports, manganese ore prices declined further. In late April, traders held back from sales and raised offers dramatically, so offers in the market were in a mess. Meantime, offers from overseas manganese ore suppliers in the Chinese market continued to rise and the price for Gabonese origin manganese lump 44.5% increased by USD0.7/mtu to USD5.9/mtu. Manganese ore prices tended to pick up in a short term.
