Manganese Alloys and Ore Market Report March 2017

Prices for silicomanganese rebounded substantially in March 2017 with mainstream prices for silicomanganese 65/17 up by RMB1,400/t (USD203/t) from early March to RMB69,000-71,000/t (USD9.998-10,288/t) D/P VAT included ex works in late March. In late March, steel mills successively released their bidding prices for silicomanganese, which were mainly at RMB7,000-7,200/t (USD1,014-1,043/t) D/A VAT included delivered to plants, and producers had difficulties in raising their quotations. Mainstream prices for silicomanganese 60/14 were RMB5,400-5,600/t (USD782-811/t) D/P ex works VAT excluded in late March, an increase of RMB600/t (USD86.94/t).

After the serious problems of inverted prices in the spot market in January and February, prices for manganese ore went up substantially in March. Market participants considered that the price increase was caused by speculation activities as stocks in ports of China were sufficient and demand was very weak in the spot market.Asian Metal Copyright However, demand from end users was still weak and transactions were limited.Asian Metal Copyright Prices for the material began to be stabilized in late March as consumers mainly kept stocks based on demand rather than hold stocks in large volumes.
