As a minor, soft, ductile and silvery-white metal with bright luster and with a chemical symbol of In, indium has an atomic number of 49 and belongs to the IIIA group in the periodic table of the elements
. It has an atomic weight of 114 . 81, and its melting and boiling point is 429 . 7485 K (156 . 5985 °C, 313 . 8773 °F) and 2345 K (2072 °C, 3762 °F) respectively . Indium has a density of 7.31 g/cm3 and is not oxidized by air at room temperature . With a slight radioactivity, indium may damage the heart, kidneys and liver, and therefore direct physical contact with the metal should be avoided . Its content in the earthcrust is 1×10^(-5)% . Though indium also exists in independent forms, such as CulnS2, FelnS4, In (OH)3, their volumes are very small . On the whole, indium exists as a isomorphism element in multi-metal sulfides such as marmatite, hematite, galena . In addition, indium is also found in tin ore, wolframite and ordinary hornblende . Indium is widely used in space aviation, wireless and electronic industry, medicine, defense, high-tech industry, energy and so on.
