In January, the silicon metal market in China remained relatively stable. Although prices for silicon metal fell in December 2016, the operating rate for silicon metal plants substantially decreased with the approaching of dry season in South China. In addition, most silicon metal producers were not in a rush to sell stocks at low prices except that several producers sold the material with slightly lower prices to recoup funds before the holiday as the Spring Festival was approaching. Therefore, prices for silicon metal had no substantial fluctuations and the market kept running relatively stably in January.
