Influenced by the government’s continuous restriction on steel production, raw materials prices kept standing high in January. Steel mills were reluctant to lower CRC and HGI coil prices. However, with the approach of Chinese New Year holiday, the demand from downstream industries shrank gradually in January. Prices of CRC and HGI coil increased slightly by no more than RMB50/t (USD7/t) in the month. The demand from downstream consumers is likely to become stronger after the Chinese New Year holiday, so insiders predict prices for CRC and HGI coil are likely to go up slightly in February.
