Influenced by the government’s restriction on steel mills’ production, prices of wire rod and rebar recorded an upward trend in the first half of this month. However, the demand from downstream consumers continued to shrink in the traditional low season, when the year end was approaching. As a consequence, prices of wire rod and rebar fell back in the second half of this month. Since the Chinese New Year will come in the end of January, the demand from downstream consumers will keep shrinking in the month. Insiders predict that prices for wire rod and rebar are likely to record a downward trend in January.
