After the time stepped into July, the demand from downstream industries gradually decreased due to the traditional slack season
. Producers of NdFeB magnets, rare earth phosphor powders, rare earth catalysts, alloys and other industrial aspects reduced their outputs and consumption of rare earth raw materials, which results in witnessed slow buying activities in the spot market . Without firm support from downstream industry, PrNd, dysprosium and terbium products prices’ showed downtrend early this month, while dysprosium and terbium products’ prices started to revive a bit in mid-July as more than 70% of separation plants in South China had halted production, and the prices increased slightly due to suppliers’ watchful attitudes . The central government started to inspect environmental problems in mid-July, and most separations and some smelters in North China also ceased for an overhaul . So PrNd products’ prices kept declining and went flat late this month . Prices of other products, such as lanthanum, cerium, yttrium, europium, showed relatively stable trend in July as their prices had been at low levels and it was hard for suppliers to earn margins.
