Moving into June, silicon metal producers had less interest in making aggressive offers to secure deals with some of them even starting to consider reducing or suspending production because market prices for silicon metal 5-5-3 had dropped close to or even below production costs. Therefore, prices for silicon metal stayed stable in early-to-mid June. During mid-to-late June, as some trades were eager to purchase prompt material to fulfill orders, the Chinese low grade silicon metal spot market saw a short-term supply shortage, resulting in a rise in prices of silicon metal 5-5-3.
