In June, in terms of domestic market, Chinese zircon sand suppliers held price firm and reduced output as a reaction to shortage of available zirconium intermediate ores. Zirconium chemicals also saw stable prices with slightly contracted demand and supply. Zirconium silicate witnessed greatly shrinking demand in ceramic industry with declined prices. Fused zirconia prices went down as some suppliers, with the lower electricity prices in wet season, reduced prices actively, dragged down the whole prices. Zirconium sponge suppliers reduced prices to destock and ease cash pressure.
In overseas zircon sand market, two main Australian zircon sand suppliers in the world, namely Iluka and Tronox announced to raise prices by USD60/t in Q3 and consumers were active to replenish stocks before the price increase. One of the major South African zircon sand suppliers in the world, namely RBM, claimed to hold prices unchanged in Q3. They had very short supply in June and maybe so in the following three months. Indonesian suppliers greatly reduced zircon sand supply for Lesser Bairam.
