Thin deals were concluded in the month due to the Lunar Spring Festival in China
. Most participants were resting in the first half of the month . With buyers absent from the market, supply of both S . G . cast iron and cast iron was increasing in the month and many insiders were expecting iron prices to fall in the second half of the month when the holiday was over . However, pushed by rapidly increasing iron ore prices, iron producers had to raise their sales prices after the holiday to avoid losses with production cost rising significantly . And by the end of the month, many iron producers that closed before the holiday still had not resumed production yet . The low output also supported iron prices a bit . But with most casting plants still in low operation, demand of both S . G . cast iron and cast iron stayed slow all through the month and buyers were reluctant to rebuild stocks especially when iron prices climbed up quickly . Insiders expect iron supply to improve in March and believe iron ore prices may slide then due to lack of support from the downstream markets . With production cost decreasing, iron price may follow suit with demand also inactive.
