Chinese HR strip prices witnessed an upward trend during the month mainly supported by higher raw material costs and the increase in steel mills’ list prices. Since steel billet prices went up, major HR strip producers increased their prices accordingly. However, the market sales performance continued to be poor with downstream customers still struggling amid the gloomy economy and traditional off-season. Traders refused to build substantial stockpiles, intent on avoiding any risks and the market inventory remained low. Considering Chinese New Year is around the corner, insiders predict the market will stay quiet in the coming month.
