Prices for welded pipe went up nationwide during the month, boosted by the material shortage, while those for seamless pipe either went down or stayed broadly unchanged. The overall market performance remained unsatisfactory and showed no signs of recovering. Lacking confidence in the market outlook after the Spring Festival (8 February), most traders refused to build large stockpiles as they had done during the corresponding period in past years. Insiders foresee a slight price rise in February in view of the low overall stock levels.
