HRC prices soared after the New Year holiday (1-3January), boosted by a sharp increase in the price of raw materials; but they fell back gradually later in the month, dragged down by the weak demand from downstream industries. Stockists and producers of HRC had no confidence in the market outlook and refrained from building large inventories. Insiders predict a slight price increase in February in view of the low stockpiles.
