1.1 Definition of silicon metal
A non-metallic element occurring extensively in the Earth's crust in silica and silicates, having both an amorphous and a crystalline allotrope, and used doped or in combination with other materials in glass, semiconducting devices, concrete, bricks, refractory materials, pottery and silicones.
Grades of silicon metal: based on differing contents of Fe, Al and Ca, silicon metal can be divided into grades such as 553, 441, 411, 421, 3303, 2202 etc.
