The Fed finally raised the interest rates by 0.25% in mid-December, which imposed no extensive influences due to the precious long-term expectancy. The price for 3-month nickel on LME remained stable at the low level of USD8,500-8,850/t this month.
Some domestic nickel plants successively reduced productions of nickel cathodes and ferronickel in December in accordance with the joint statement of production reduction in November. However, the price for nickel cathodes still hovered at low level and the operating rates kept slipping in ferronickel plants due to the continuously sluggish demand in the stainless steel market. Due to no favorable or unfavorable news in the market, the nickel price is expected to remain at low level in January.
