Steel pipe prices demonstrated a downward trend in most Chinese cities during the month due to the weak downstream demand and lower raw material prices. Although January is the off season for the steel pipe industry, prices for iron ore and steel billet showed some signs of increasing at the end of December. Moreover, the supply in January is likely to be less than before, as some steel producers may choose to start their production line maintenance before the Spring Festival. Therefore, insiders believe that Chinese steel pipe prices will increase slightly during January 2016.
