Section steel prices witnessed a downward trend in major domestic cities this month and the market remained sluggish, lacking any strong support from downstream demand. However, the price of steel billet — the raw material — showed signs of rebounding at the end of December. In addition, many domestic steel producers are likely to start production line maintenance next month with the Spring Festival approaching and the supply is set to become tight in January. Therefore, insiders believe that Chinese section steel prices will demonstrate an upward trend next month.
