Prices of wire rod and rebar continued on the downward trend in the first half of December in China, while they stopped falling and witnessed an upward trend in some regions influenced by the price rebound of raw materials such as steel billet and iron ore fines. Some steel mills were not active in producing and the entire inventory of wire rod and rebar continued to run at a relatively low level in the second half of December. However, the demand from constructional projects failed to show obvious signs of becoming strong. Insiders predict that prices for wire rod and rebar are likely to go up firstly and then come down in January.
