Steel mills’ operating ratio increased slightly this month and iron ore demands went up accordingly. Better demands and lower port inventory led to higher iron ore prices. However, prices did not go up much. Under the dim steel market, iron ore prices kept fluctuating in the second half of the month. Chinese-origin iron ore prices were stable in general and some regions witnessed a RMB10-20/t increase under the influence of bullish imported iron ore market. Iron ore stocks at ports do not drop in high speed now and the steel market is still weak. Considering these, iron ore prices are expected to go up in the first half of June and then to drop in the second half.
