Supply within the manganese alloy market remained adequate on the whole during January, although the market was under additional pressure from the soft steel market, and prices stayed at a low level. Even so, most end users maintained their purchase volumes and prices for some manganese alloys held firm, albeit the plentiful supply made manganese alloy producers pessimistic about future market developments. Participants consider it an impossibility that the manganese alloy market and prices will rebound in the near term.
Given the current sluggish downstream market conditions, many Chinese imported manganese ore traders left the market and watched the situation develop in January, especially as the manganese ore market was also soft throughout the month. Mainstream manganese ore witnessed relatively healthy transaction levels, but downstream users were reluctant to accept the rising costs while their own product prices continued to be so low. As a result, the whole manganese ore market price remained on a downward trend.
