Nickel market experienced ups and downs in September. In the beginning of September, the Philippines announced that they plan to ban the nickel ore export, after the news came out, LME nickel price bounced up to USD20,000/t
. Then the Philippines announced that they will delay to implement the ban for at least five years. After the concern of short supply eased, nickel price dropped in the following weeks,and went down to USD16,000/t and then slightly rebounded . The Chinese domestic spot market followed the trend, and nickel price dropped sharply during September . The downstream buyers were reluctant to purchase due to continuously falling price, and most of the market participants were watching the market . Chinese ferronickel output decreased further, and nickel ore market was quiet.
