Manganese flake outputs were reduced in South China in August due to the hot weather and manganese ore supply problems in Hunan, which resulted in tight supply of the material with prices rebounding
In the first half of August, the manganese ore market saw little fluctuation. However, suppliers raised their quotations gradually as stocks at ports were reducing with more enquires from downstream industries during monthly purchasing in the second half of August . Therefore, Australian manganese ore 43-44% prices rose by RMB0.5/mtu (USD0.08/mtu) to RMB32-33/mtu (USD5 . 22-5.38/mtu) and then held steady with modest demand until the end of the month . Meanwhile, with many miners choosing to leave and watch the market over the summer months, supplies were hard to come by for Chinese consumers . Therefore, they increased their purchase volumes of South African manganese ore 38% in August, resulting in a three-fold rise in the price of this material to USD3 . 20-3.30/dmtu FOB South Africa in the early part of August with the prices staying in this range until the end of the month.
. The mainstream prices for manganese flake 99.7%min surged to RMB12,700-13,000/t (USD2,070-2,119/t) in mid-August, witnessing an increase of RMB400/t (USD65/t) over the previous month. But they slipped by RMB50/t (USD8/t) to RMB12,650-12,950/t (USD2,062-2,111/t) at the end of the month following a slight reduction in demand for manganese metals from Chinese steel mills.In the first half of August, the manganese ore market saw little fluctuation.
