The manganese alloy markets continued to fluctuate narrowly this month. Both markets saw slightly reduced demand as it was still the off-season, but supply increased moderately. Operating rates in the northwest regions still took the lead, while those in the south saw some improvement. A number of steel mills reduced tender prices for silicomanganese 65/17 marginally at the beginning of August, with most offers following suit later on. In comparison, although steel mills’ tender prices for high carbon ferromanganese also decreased slightly, offers for the material didn’t show any signs of a decline as producers held firm on their quotations.
