Shanxi province once dominated the magnesium ingot market in terms of both production capacity and annual output in the period before 2010, benefitting from the appliance of effective gas-generators in magnesium ingot production. However, coke producers in Shaanxi province, who in 2010 started to make use of waste gas generated from semi-coke production to produce magnesium ingot, not only made a circular economy a reality, but also created a new cost-effective model for magnesium production (which then spread rapidly throughout Shaanxi).
