Chinese selenium market was sluggish in October with prices of selenium powder 99.9% and selenium dioxide falling by RMB40/kg (USD6.6/kg) and RMB55/kg (USD9.0/kg) respectively. According to data released by China Customs, China imported 209t of selenium in September, increasing by 26t compared with that in August. So the spot stocks were running at a high level along with Chinese domestic selenium powder producers’ shouldering greater financial pressure in Q4 of the year. On the demand side, most Chinese end users just made purchases to meet immediate use in view of low operating rate of manganese flake, as well as downward prices, which lead to rare big deals in Chinese selenium dioxide market throughout the month.
Chinese tellurium prices also witnessed markdowns in October, and suppliers had to accept price declines in order to promote sales in face of constant weak demand from downstream industries. In addition, European tellurium market remained dim with slow activities, as well as decreasing prices in the month.
