In July, steel mills began to halt production for maintenance, and the demand for refractory became slow. The brown fused alumina market entered summer slack season, and some brown fused alumina producers even halted production due to no orders. Regarding the export market, some foreign buyers left the market for summer holiday, and the export market was quite slow.
White fused alumina market ran quite slowly in this summer, and the competition among producers was severe. Some producers cut down output or halted production. The mainstream price of white fused alumina was in the range of RMB4,700-4,950/t (USD768-807/t) ex works for segment sands, but some producers even concluded deals at as low as RMB4,500/t (USD734/t) ex works. Export market also saw different prices, and the demand was still feeble.
