South China entered the rainy season gradually in late May and early June and the silicon metal prices decreased from early June until early July. The overall power price for the rainy season this year is higher than that of last year and the operating rate for silicon metal smelters is lower against the same period of last year. Moreover, silicon metal market saw stable purchasing in July. Thus in the second half of July, Chinese silicon metal supply in the spot market was a bit tight. Silicon metal smelters held offers firm and some even raised offers slightly. Chinese silicon metal export market saw some orders in July and the prices kept largely stable. Most overseas market participants entered the summer vacation in late July and early August, and Chinese silicon metal export market became quiet in late July.
