BEIJING (Asian Metal) 26 Jul 13 – Many lead smelters cut lead ingot production in Henan, Hunan and Yunnan provinces in the second quarter of this year and the average operation rate of the lead smelters kept around 50% in China in recent months. The operation rates touched the lowest level in the recent three years . As lead and silver priced declined greatly in the past months, some lead smelters had to cut production to reduce loss . However, most lead smelters reduced production due to the shortage of lead concentrate supply . The ratio between lead ingot prices in Chinese market and that on the LME remained at low levels, so it’s unprofitable to import lead concentrate from overseas market . With the lead concentrate import declining, the deficit of lead concentrate increased in Chinese market.
