Market review
Coking coal market remained weak and prices continued to decline in May. Mines suffered from high stocks due to sporadic deals as downstream users tried to reduce raw material stocks. Many domestic large mines offered discounts to buyers in order to improve sales while holing stable list prices. Coking coal prices declined by RMB50-100/t in real term. In addition, some domestic large mines even cut list prices. Yanzhou Coal Industry reduced prices of clean gas coal by RMB60/t and Shanxi Coking Coal Group cut listed pricesby RMB10-70/t. The price decline was RMB50-100/t in southwestern regions. In the import market, coking coal prices slid by RMB50/t. Traders held strong wait-and-see attitude and delivery to ports decreased.
