Affected by slowly moving global economy, China cobalt price had been trending downwards in the most times of 2012
. Consumers were unwilling to build up high inventory because of an overall oversupply and a lack of confidence about the market in the future, so the price ran at a low level. Spurred by the rising European prices in February, 2012, China cobalt metal prices spiked to the peak of RMB238-256/kg (USD37 . 90-40.76/kg) or so, but then plummeted to RMB198-213/kg (USD31 . 53-33.92/kg) in December, a bottom price level since 2008.
