Lithium metal price to rise after the Spring Festival holiday

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 23 Jan 13 – Market insiders reported to Asian Metal that as lithium chloride price is expected to go up in the near future, most lithium metal producers raise quotations at the present time
A producer in Jiangxi reported to Asian Metal that their price of lithium metal keeps at around RMB370/kg (USD58.92/kg) and RMB400/kg (USD63.69/kg) for industrial grade and battery grade lithium metal . According to him, they have negotiated with consumers about the price rise, and downstream clients ask the producer to postpone raising price after the Spring Festival holiday . The source, with a monthly output of about 80t, thinks that lithium metal price will rise because both imported brine and spodumene prices move up.
A producer in Sichuan, who produces lithium metal, lithium belt and lithium tablets, reported to Asian Metal that most of their lithium metal is met for demand of their own and a few of them are sold to spot market. The source reported that lithium chloride producers raise offers from RMB42/kg (USD6.69/kg) to RMB44/kg (USD7.01/kg) . “We have not signed long-term contracts with suppliers about lithium chloride, but the price of lithium chloride is expected to rise in the short run,” disclosed the source.
According to him, they have also lifted offers of lithium metal tentatively motivated by the cost of lithium chloride. The producers disclosed that quotations of industrial grade lithium metal is RMB360/kg (USD57.32/kg) at the lowest, up from RMB350-360/kg (USD55 . 73-57.32/kg) and they also raised the quotations of battery grade lithium metal to RMB430/kg (USD68.47/kg), up from RMB420-430/kg (USD66 . 88-68.47/kg) in early January . He believes that lithium metal price is foreseen to go up after the Spring Festival holiday . The producer, whose output of lithium metal is 100t in 2012, up from 60t in 2011.
