BEIJING (Asian Metal) 18 Oct 12 – With the dropping price of raw materials, lithium cobalt oxide price is expected to go down. At the present time, mainstream price of lithium cobalt oxide decreases slightly to around RMB184-189/kg (USD29.21-30.00/kg), down by about RMB1/kg (USD0.16/kg) compared with that of a week ago. According to insiders, demand in recent two months only increase marginally during the bullish season, and it is predicted that lithium cobalt oxide price will retreat slightly in the coming few days.
A producer in Tianjin reported that they insist on offering RMB185-187/kg (USD29.37-29.68/kg) for lithium cobalt oxide, but consumers are reluctant to accept the quotations seeing cobalt chloride and cobalt tetroxide prices falling. “Most of our deals are made at around RMB182-185/kg (USD28.89-29.37/kg) right now,” said the source.
At the same time, the source reported that there is not much change in strong season for lithium battery industry affected by the low economic environment. “Demand from lithium battery sector only increases a little,” said the source who tries to sell 100t in October.
A consumer in Guangdong confirms that lithium price is on the downward tendency. The source expressed that they bought several batches of lithium cobalt oxide at RMB180-183/kg (USD28.57-29.05/kg) in August and early September. “In September, most of our suppliers raise offers to RMB185-188/kg (USD29.37-29.84/kg) and we were hesitant to make procurement at that time,” said the source. For the time being, lithium cobalt oxide price drops again and most quotations come down to RMB184-187/kg (USD29.21-29.68/kg), according to him.
