Nordic Iron targets 2.2 million mt annual iron ore concentrate output in Sweden

Swedish mining company Nordic Iron Ore has announced the results of a pre-feasibility study (PFS) for its Blotberget-Vasmanfaltet iron ore project, located near Ludvika in central Sweden. The study outlines total mineral resources of 104.5 million metric tons and supports a mine life of 23 years.
According to the PFS, combined mineral resources across the Blotberget and Vasmanfaltet deposits are estimated at 104.5 million metric tons grading 39.0% iron (Fe). At Blotberget, proven and probable ore reserves stand at 55.7 million metric tons at 36.1% Fe, representing a 63% increase from the 34.1 million metric tons reported in the project's 2019 definitive feasibility study (DFS).
At Vasmanfaltet, inferred mineral resources total 46.7 million metric tons grading 35.7% Fe. The company has also identified an exploration target ranging from 7.9 to 80.5 million metric tons with grades between 24.7% and 43.2% Fe at the same site. Nordic Iron noted that additional exploration is required to determine whether these volumes can ultimately be classified as mineral resources.
Under the PFS mine plan, the project is expected to process a total of 100.5 million metric tons of mill feed over its 23-year operating life, averaging approximately 4.8 million metric tons per year during production years. Average annual production of ultra-high-grade iron ore concentrate (67.5% Fe) is estimated at approximately 2.2 million metric tons, with total concentrate output reaching 45.7 million metric tons over the life of the mine.
Nordic Iron expects to complete the DFS, secure project financing, and make a final investment decision between 2028 and 2029. Construction is planned to take place from 2029 to 2031, with initial mining and concentrate production currently targeted for 2031–2032. First ore from Vasmanfaltet is anticipated in the late 2030s.
