Champion Iron Limited has completed its direct reduction pellet feed (DRPF) project at the Bloom Lake mine, coming in within the $500 million budget.
The facility has successfully produced its first batch of direct reduction (DR)-grade iron ore. A maiden commercial shipment, loaded onto a Capesize vessel with a capacity of at least 160,000 wet metric tonnes, is scheduled for the third quarter of the 2026 calendar year.
The project is designed to upgrade half of Bloom Lake's production capacity to a premium DR-quality pellet feed with an iron grade of up to 69%. This high-purity product is poised to meet growing global demand for lower-carbon steelmaking technologies, including electric arc furnaces.
