  • Greenland turns down Energy Transition Minerals' licence renewal bid

    2026-06-29 10:37:12   [Print]
Greenland has rejected a request from Greenland Minerals, a subsidiary of Australia-based Energy Transition Minerals (ETM), to renew its exploration licence for the Kuannersuit rare earths project, the government announced on Friday.

The decision comes more than four years after Greenland's then-ruling Inuit Ataqatigiit party introduced a ban on uranium mining in 2021. That prohibition effectively stalled development at Kuannersuit-also known as Kvanefjeld-given that the project contains uranium as a byproduct.

ETM had previously disclosed in April that it had received a draft decision from the Greenland authorities, indicating that the mineral resources ministry was leaning toward recommending rejection of the application. Friday's announcement confirms that recommendation has now been formalized.
