India's state-run mining company NMDC Limited has initiated an expansion project at its Donimalai iron ore complex in the southern state of Karnataka, aiming to boost annual production capacity from 15 million metric tons to 17 million metric tons, company sources said on Wednesday, June 24. The project entails a capital expenditure of approximately $80 million.
The expansion will involve the deployment of additional heavy mining equipment, the installation of a new screening plant, and the construction of a conveyor system to transport ore to the processing facility, according to the sources.
The investment at Donimalai aligns with NMDC's broader goal of achieving aggregate iron ore production of 100 million metric tons per year. The miner has set a production target of 60 million metric tons for fiscal year 2026-27, up from the 53 million metric tons achieved in 2025-26.
