Iron ore exports via Port Hedland up 10.3% in May 2026 compared to April

In May 2026, iron ore shipments from Australia's Port Hedland totaled 51,029,634 metric tons, reflecting a 10.3 percent increase month on month but a 3.1 percent decrease year on year.
According to data released by the Port Hedland Port Authority, iron ore shipments from the port to China reached 43.74 million metric tons in May, up 13.7 percent from the previous month but down 3.7 percent from the same month last year. South Korea and Japan followed China, receiving 3.52 million metric tons and 2.08 million metric tons, respectively.
Meanwhile, iron ore shipments from Port Dampier in May fell to 11.9 million metric tons, representing an 11.6 percent decline month on month and a 3.8 percent decline year on year.
