  • Northern Rare Earth's giant magnetostrictive material demo line completed

    Recently, Inner Mongolia's first mass-production demonstration line for rare earth giant magnetostrictive material (Terfenol-D) was completed at a new material subsidiary of China Northern Rare Earth, marking a major step from laboratory preparation to industrial application.

    The line, jointly developed with Beihang University and the Baotou Research Institute of Rare Earths (BRIRE), adopts directional solidification and "crystal growth and microstructure regulation" technology. Its products deliver a magnetostriction of 1,200 ppm under a low magnetic field of 100 kA/m, with performance consistency reaching internationally advanced levels.Asian Metal Copyright This project will help break through foreign technological barriers, expand applications of giant magnetostrictive materials in active sonar, precision micro-displacement actuators, and high-power electroacoustic transducers, enhance the added value of rare earth products, and meet demand across aviation, aerospace, and marine industries.Asian Metal Copyright The line's annual production capacity is expected to reach 1,000kg by the end of 2026.
