China sets quota for second batch of rare earth mining, smelting and separation in 2023

China set a quota for the second batch of rare earth mining in 2023 at 120,000 tonnes, with a quota for smelting and separation at 115,000 tonnes, according to a joint statement by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and the Ministry of Natural Resources.
The first two batches of rare earth mining quota and smelting and separation quota for this year totaled 240,000 tonnes and 230,000 tonnes respectively. There is a reserved quota for 2023 which is subject to market supply and demand and actual implementation of quota by rare earth companies.
China Northern Rare Earth (Group) Hightech Co., Ltd . is granted a rock type rare earth mining quota of 80,943t, accounting for 67.45% of the overall mining quota, with a smelting/separation quota of 73,403t, accounting for 63 . 83% of the overall quota.
