Tesla to build first overseas Megapack energy storage factory in Shanghai

On April 9, Tesla signed an agreement with the Administrative Committee of the Lingang New Sub-zone of the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone to build a new factory that will produce its energy storage product Megapack in Shanghai, its first such factory outside the United States.
According to Tesla, the new factory will initially produce 10,000 units of Megapack annually, which amounts to around 40GWh of energy storage and will be sold worldwide. The new factory is scheduled to break ground in Q3 2023 and begin commercial production in Q2 2024.
