MIIT: China's Li-ion battery production up by 106% YOY in 2021

On February 24, the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) unveiled operation results of the lithium-ion battery industry in 2021. Statistics showed that in 2021 China's Li-ion battery production was 324GWh, up by 106% on a year-to-year basis. In particular, production of consumer, power and energy-storage Li-battery was 72GWh, 220GWh and 32GWh respectively, up by 18%, 165% and 146% YOY respectively. Production of four core materials in Li-battery production grew rapidly. Related research institutes estimated that production of cathode material, separation film and electrolyte all grew at a rate of nearly 100%, and the full Li-battery industry achieved a value of over RMB600 billion (USD94.96 billion).
